Use the Benefits of Strategic Planning To Boost Your Team’s Morale
This blog post unpacks the three reasons to launch a strategic planning process and three BIG benefits you’ll see from doing it now.
Dreaming is hard, especially when you are scared and exhausted. I remember talking to my friend, Jen, about dreams and the arc of history. She views history as having a very long arc.
One time, she said to me, “People think the arc of history is short. They think about it in the context of their own life, as defined by this day, this month, or this calendar year. When in reality, the arc of history is quite long. And that we, as people who are on this planet, at this time, have one tiny space on this huge arc.”
I remember asking, “Well, how do we bend it? How can we change it?”
She said, “We can't possibly bend the whole arc of history in our lifetimes. But what we can do is pull it in the spaces we're in. If we're all pulling together, then collectively we bend the arc of history. We force change.”
Today is a new day, which means we have the opportunity to shift toward something different, something better. Something equitable.
This blog post unpacks the three reasons to launch a strategic planning process and three BIG benefits you’ll see from doing it now.
Here are the 3 reasons to launch a planning process.
Your team is faced with new challenges.
You’ve had major shifts in personnel or funding that spark the need to reaffirm your mission, vision, and values with your staff.
You’ve achieved your goals from your last strategic plan, and you're looking for new opportunities to do great work.
Here are 3 BIG benefits of launching a planning process—now.
A strategic planning process can:
Create the space for your team to come together, think, plan, and connect around your organization’s mission, vision, and values.
Give you permission to imagine what's possible together, then plan for it.
Plot a course of action to implement your team’s best thinking.
This “coming together” is particularly important for teams who are still working remotely. Sometimes, the day-to-day of work and life make it hard to come together to dream. Often, it's not that you don’t want to plan, but there isn't the time or bandwidth when you're constantly putting out fires. Especially now. Setting aside time for visioning work can boost staff morale when everything else around you feels chaotic.
