Employee Handbook or Practice Review

Focus on What Governs Your Organization

Designed to ensure that internal policies align with
commitments, mission, vision, and values.

What you can expect from an Employee Handbook or Practice Review

Use this service to review and update your Employee Handbook or Policy & Procedure Manual from an equity perspective.

Stamey Street's Employee Handbook or Practice Review includes a review and analysis of organizational policies and practices. Our review will note areas of strength, areas for additional examination, content flags (e.g., language and framing), and system needs (e.g., accessibility) from your Employee Handbook.

For many leaders, updating their handbooks is left to the companies that manage their payroll, like ADP, Paychex, or Gusto. For some, these templates are helpful. But for organizations with equity commitments, there are often important factors that go beyond cookie-cutter templates.

Our level of analysis includes compliance with state and federal laws (including recent Executive Orders). It also includes an analysis of which policies are in place, which aren't, and where more clearly defined, equitable processes are needed. Policies, practices, and protocols shape organizational behaviors.

Stamey Street offers two types of policy review services:

  • Full Review: We'll review your organization's policy handbook and any standalone policies for language updates (e.g., removing binary language), policies for which there is no system to guide staff action, and updates based on current HR practice.

  • Selected Review: A selection of policies — up to 5, using the same process but on a smaller scale. Leaders choose this service when:

    • the organization has adopted new policies that have not been integrated into their Employee Handbook, or

    • when they already know where the pain points are in the employee experience, or

    • working with a short timeline or limited budget
