Data Driven Decision-making

Organizational Assessments

It is easier to lead toward the future when you understand where your organization is today.

Designed for nonprofit, philanthropy, and business leaders who have experienced growth and are committed to sustaining equitable workplaces in uncertain times.

What you can expect from an organizational assessment

Use an organizational assessment to identify growth areas and opportunities to operate more effectively and efficiently.

Stamey Street's organizational assessment uncovers opportunities for growth and shifts in practice. Assessments can yield important information for both organizations that have experienced rapid growth in a short period and for older, more mature organizations that have never done this kind of internal review. Consistently, assessments identify areas where policies, practices, and other ways of working no longer align with who organizations are today or how they work. Without a clear why, assessments can be unproductive. At Stamey Street, all of our assessments start with a clear why to ground your team's efforts in meaning, direction, and commitment.

Stamey Street produces an assessment report and an action plan for implementing our recommendations. Implementation support is also available.

We customize assessments to each client's specific needs. But here is what an assessment can include:

  • Internal Systems Review: A review of the systems your organization uses to function to determine if the necessary systems are present to support your work moving forward.

  • Policy Handbook and Practice Review: A review of your organization's policy manual, as well as any stand-alone policies from an equity perspective. Our level of analysis includes compliance with state and federal laws (including recent Executive Orders).

Strategic Priorities Review: This review is a check-in on your strategic plan, in the context of today's landscape for your work and recent initiatives.

  • Workplace Culture Survey (optional): The purpose of this data collection is to understand the organization's internal power dynamics. We field the assessment via an online survey tool and can also include focus groups and 1:1 interviews. We always protect personally identifiable data. We can collect data from both large (500+) and small (<10) organizations.

An organizational assessment includes

  • Project lanning around goals

  • Policy and practice review

  • Document and materials review

  • Internal systems review

  • Writtten plan with recommendations

  • Implementation support

How Clients Use Organizational Assessments

Here are some of the ways that clients use this service

  • Stamey Street includes assessments as part of its strategic planning service.

  • We have conducted internal systems, policy handbooks, and strategic priorities reviews for clients who have experienced rapid growth. A change in size, even from 9 to 15 staff, can make everyday work feel overwhelming if the necessary systems are not in place.

  • We have worked with clients who are "growing up" (more than 10 years old) by using all three core reviews, along with workplace culture, to identify where greater focus is needed to support their growth in the coming years.

Assessments help gauge where you are so you can plan where you want to go.

Let’s talk about ways to stay effective, efficient, and focused on mission-critical results.
